Got a surgery date: what does that mean?

Recommended Posts

My problem is smoking,my first visit was March 17th,I quit right after that& then I had to deaths one tragic& the other cancer,he went very quick!!! Of course I was a mess & started smoking again, plus this pre-op diet, I think if I can quit a week before I'll be okay, it's so very hard!!!!! I worry myself to death about it!!!!! Please don't judge,I'm only human!!!!!

x smoker here so no judgement! I quit about 8 years ago and haven't looked back! My husband and I both quit cold turkey........... I know how hard it is! I do suggest that you don't wait until right before your pre-op diet to quit. If I were you I'd do that now. The sooner the better!....I sort of did the same thing with caffeine and carbonated drinks...rather than waiting until the pre-op I kicked those habits before so I wouldn't have the withdrawal symptoms while trying to stick to the pre-op diet.

My bariatric office wouldn't accept anyone in the program that tested positive for nicotine in the labs. One gal claimed to not even be a smoker, but her surgery was postponed 30 days when she tested positive for it. Strange.

@@Miss.Bunny447 Yeah, it probably doesn't mean you were approved just yet. It's just them putting you on the surgery schedule and anticipating that you will be. Good luck!

My coordinator scheduled my surgery date on the day that he submitted everything to my insurance. So I have my date (July 27) but no approval yet. Ci meet the criteria for my insurance so he assumes that I will have approval at some point before the date.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
