Hey there everyone, I had my surgery on Aug. 2nd & didn't have any problems, wasn't even really sore.. I was really scared to eat regular food after not eating for 2 1/2 weeks, but I am doing fine, I have lost 12lbs so far, I thought it would be more, but I am totally happy with that, I have PCOS so I knew my weight loss would be slow... I just wanted to check in and say hi to everyone and congrats to those who are loosing, I also wanted to say I will be saying a prayer for all of those who are yet to get their surgery... You will all do fine.. just think a year from now....we will all be sharing our stories of how much we have lost.

Just a update here. began at 286 now 265 banded 8/15/07. Protien bullets (I use them) are tubes of flavored liquid orange, fruit punch or grape can be gotten at any health supplement store. 42 grams of protien per tube. So as I am allowed a scrambled egg in the morning 6 grams of protien and a half cup of cottage cheese at lunch 16 grams of Protein I use 1 bullet to complete my protien needs. They are small and handy if u need a easy carry about 2.99 each. Doin great so far. God Bless everybody.:ranger:

Hello all I was banded on Aug 20th 2007. Doing really well, getting in all my liquids per day. Still needing help with the Protein. I have lost 27.5 # since the last of may and including the preop diet. I go back to the doctor on Tuesday. I really like the Atkins vanilla Protein Shakes. Choc whey protein is very good also. I made it with skim milk and it was great. I want to know when I can start riding my bike, consider I just bought a 26" ladies mountain bike. Guess I will ask the doctor on Tuesday. What are the new banders doing for exercise? Any and all input would be appreciated. Good luck and keep up the good work......

Thanks for helping. I went to the whole foods store, and trador joes and both places did not have protein bullets.

i also had band on 8/15/07. a friend that had gastric bypass told me about protien bullets but havn't tried yet. i have been eating yogurt, shakes, & broth. just got to try mushy yesterday. had mushy mashed potatoes & also had some egg drop Soup which really was good for change. I am going to try soft egg today.anything not all liquid sounds good. it has been an adjustment couldn't watch husband eat while i was on on broths. poor guy! i think it is smell of food that makes so hard. it's all in head as some say. getting much better. i have lost 21 lbs & am very glad to have had surgery. great to know someone else had surgery same day and share our journey's to being thin!:clap2:

Congrats to everyone who's lost so far!

I was banded Aug. 9th, and for me that first week out was hell. It was tough mostly because I expected to bounce back so much faster than I did. I was really sore at the port site from it being sutured in, had a lot of nausea, and terrible gas pains. I sincerely wondered what I was thinking and was in regretland, especially after weighing myself in the hospital and thinking I had gained back pounds (nope- your body is filled with IV fluids and gas giving you false numbers!) Instead of being out of work 3 days, it took me 7.

I'm happy to report that I'm now almost 3 weeks out, the gas pains are all but a memory at this point, the port site pain is virtually gone (it would be completely, but my bf accidentally leaned on me late last week- OUCH) and the nausea is a thing of the past. Week two was really the threshold for me.

So far I'm down a little more than 20 pounds and I'm really happy with that. People are noticing and my clothes are getting loose already.

Good luck to everyone out there!

What is Protein bullets?

I think the Protein bullets are the following: IDS New Whey Liquid Protein fruit Punch -- 12 pkt - vitacost

They are awesome. you can have it straight and its like a Jello shot! very good. or, what i do is mix it with my crystal light lemon aid. If you have a hard time drinking protein chocolate or vanilla shakes, this is a nice fruity change.

I was banded on August 13 and went for my pre op today. All is going great. Found out that the reason I do not feel restricted is because I have the new AP band and its larger than the old bands - my attending told me to enjoy but be responsible. I've lost about 4 lbs since surgery. Its harder but he says things will be dramatically different on my first fill.

Thanks!

Best to everyone - keep us posted!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Ellen and I live in Philadelphia. I had my band placed on 8/3/07. I weighed 274 the day before my surgery and as of today I am at 253. Two of my wounds are infected and my Dr. started me on Cipro (an antibiotic) today. Besides my painful wounds, I feel great. I haven't really started exercising yet because my knees hurt too much.

I am pretty much eating smaller portions of all the foods I usually eat minus the ice cream andor cake that I usually would eat at nightime. I'm a little worried because i'm not really feeling full quick enough and I feel like I have no restriction. I really lost the 20 pounds in the first 2 1/2 weeks and have only lost 1 pound since.

Everyone is telling me that this is normal before my first fill. Anyone having this kind of experience.

Glad everyone is doing well.

Ellen

Hi Contraband:

You probably have the AP Band? My people told me that this new AP band is larger than the old band and therefore you can eat more, so you should be more responsible and continue to watch your food intake until your first fill. So your friends are giving you the right information. Hang in there. 20 lbs is great. I can't wait to hit that.

Take care,

Nilsa

I am going through the same thing!!! It makes me really happy to see I'm not alone. I lost 20 lbs in the first 2 weeks and then ever since I stopped liquids I've only lost about 2 or 3 lbs in the following 2 weeks. I've definitely heard that once I get a fill it gets better so I just have to hold on til mine on Sept 11

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
