I suppose like many people I have been wanting and waiting to have this surgery for a very long time. I've tried to have it over the last

10 years and I've been unsuccesful. But now here I am a 47 year old widow once again on the verge of life changing experience. I am so happy that my surgery is just 4 days away, and tomorrow I go to do my pre op registration. So why the heck am I so nervous?!

I've been reading everything and anything on RNY since I started my process 10 months ago. I know what's going to happen, I know what to expect. I've been on Instagram and YouTube following so many peoples journey. So I feel I have a grip on what's in store for me. So why the heck am I so nervous?!

I cannot be the only one who is getting ready to have their surgery and is losing it a litt bit. Or just had their surgery and clearly remembers felling anxious. It's not the liquid diet, I'm doing fine with that. It's not that I will have a lot of excess skin. So why the heck am I so nervous?!

The wheels are set in motion and It's getting real now.

It is common to get the jitters right before surgery. Good luck and let us know how things went when you are on the other side.

Hey there! I had surgery 10 months and two days ago, and I can definitely still remember how intense those last days were before surgery. There are huge changes coming, and since you are prepared, you know just how big of a deal this is. Honestly, it would be weird and concerning if you weren't at least a little nervous! However, being prepared is the best thing you can do for yourself, and the best way to remain calm. You've got this! Now all that is left is to take the plunge! :) We're all here to support you, and soon you'll be on the other side, starting a whole new life and on a road to a whole new happier, healthier you. Hang in there! ^_^

Hi Amy,

I just had my surgery 3 days ago, by myself, in a foreign country. I remember thinking to myself, "Why am I doing this to a perfectly healthy body?!" But I am a professor and researcher and have read all the literature and the reality is our chance of losing weight on our own is almost non-existent. Once you have gained weight your body will fight forever to return to that weight. We should tell every young person this basic fact and try to prevent them from gaining weight in the first place. When they came to roll me from my room to the surgical suite I said to the orderly, "oh now I am really nervous," and she smiled kindly and said, "Everyone is at this point, everyone." That, plus the surgeon's record, were quite reassuring. 3 days out and I am doing great and glad I went forward. You will be too:-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
