I'm setting myself up for failure.

You guys ........ My surgery is 9 days away. 9 days.

I haven't lost any weight in 2 months. I did great the first month. Ate healthy, no alcohol, no smoking , and I only lost 3 pounds... A sad 3 pounds that most said was just Water weight ;( I got so discouraged and found myself eating all the crap I was eating before . I found myself cheating and slowing going back on all the progress I had done ... I was suppose to be on my 2 week pre op diet a week ago. And here I am +5 pounds from my overall Preop diet. I am so emotionally drained. If I can't do this and control my hunger now , how will I control it after surgery? Am I setting myself up for failures ? I'm getting my sleeve in Mexico and I have been emailing my progress via email... But it's now closer and closer to my surgery date and I'm feeling a total wreck. I have not read or seen anyone not loose weight on the pre op diet . Please advise ;(

I would tell you to contact your psych person on your Team but I'm assuming you don't have one local. I go to bi-weekly therapy to get my emotional eating and mindless eating under control preop. It should be a requirement - it really has helped. The 2 week preop diet is not about weight loss but about shrinking your liver so surgery is safer. You need to get on it now and not cheap - you're are risking complications. I know it sucks but you've gotta get it done.

take a deep breath and ask yourself if the surgery and weight loss is really what you want.

if it's yes and yes, than start today, start now and follow your plan. you can do it!

Pre-op is to reduce your liver for a safer operation. Not to loose a ton of weight. I struggled too with the pre-op. I was off and on until I got 2 weeks away from surgery then it clicked, this is serious stuff, no more screwin around. I pretty much pep talked myself onto the liquid diet. I am now 4 days away from surgery day and hungry as heck but I've come too far (6 months to be exact) to give up now!!!!!! Plus im looking forward to just feeling good about myself.

I have my sleeve surgery this coming Friday in Mexico. I'm starting the liquid stage today, they only say 3 days before but I've also struggled with the preop diet so I'm doing liquids a few extra days. Getting pretty anxious and nervous.

Have you considered postponing your surgery until you're in a better place mentally to handle the physical burdens of surgery, post-op recovery, and all the lifestyle changes you'll be making after WLS?

Not saying you should!

Just saying that changing your surgery date is always, always, always an option for you.

You should not feel forced or rushed by the calendar or other circumstances into this kind of surgery.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
