And the Journey begins !

Recommended Posts

I started this journey back in March at 252 pounds and was given a goal weight of 238 pounds. I had my surgery yesterday after hitting my goal weight back in May and yesterday I weighed in at 235 pounds. Let me just say that the first twelve hours after surgery make you regret getting it, I was in so much pain I thought I was going to die!! But then I started walking and using my gasX strips and it helped so much! Today I'll be getting discharged and I'm afraid of getting dehydrated because at home I won't have my IV keeping me hydrated, so wish me luck!! Lol I got so sick after my surgery with vomiting and pain that I felt like I was having a heart attack or something... Gas is a killer let me tell you !! But today I get in and out of bed walk the halls and go to the restroom alone, I'm able to drink broth and Water still nothing sweet but I'm sure eventually I will. post-292516-14654164516062_thumb.jpg

So it's a week and a day since my surgery. I'm feeling pretty good. Since This journey started back in March I'm down 30 pounds!! Tomorrow is my first post op appointment and I can't wait for my weigh in. I do have a difficult time getting in 32oz of liquid a day so not quite at 64oz where I'm supposed to be. But not feeling sick. I have however had some back pain in my flanks so my kidneys may not liking this. Pain isn't an issue yesterday I did take some medicine for pain in my back, but I'm actually doing pretty good without.

You need to increase fluids ASAP - pain in your kidneys is a sign of dehydration and can be serious. Try flavored Water, infused Water, broth, sugar free popsicles, etc. It's so important to get at least 64ozs. If you're still having kidney pain - call you Dr. Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
