I had my sleeve done Monday (6/6/16) and was good enough to get discharged Thursday afternoon. I'm now on day 3 of post op and have so much pain. I have been walking and sipping trying to get any of the air still in me out. Is anyone else going through this or have any tips? Maybe using ice/heat packs?

HI! I am 6 hours post op and I feel great except for the gas. OMG it's so uncomfortable. I'm walking laps in the hospital and it's not helping. When I chewed my ice chips the Water burned going down and shortly after I threw it up. I hope tomorrow will be better and I will continue walking but holy shit is the gas uncomfortable!

The gas is no joke. So painful. Walk as much as you can and keep a heating pad or hot pack on constantly. I'm now one week post op from RNY and the gas didn't leave my chest and shoulders til the 4th day.

Hi! I'm on day 3 as well. Gas is my worst enemy, so I try to walk, lay on the side with a heating pad over the tummy and drink Water to get the gas out of my tummy. I passed gas 15 times today and I had hot peppermint tea and it felt awesome and I burped after it, so it's getting better. Good luck to you sleeve buddy!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
