okay so I was sent home with conflicting goals from different program leaders 1) Get in 60 oz protein/fluid per day ASAP don't "drink" a meal for more tha 30-45 minutes) 2) Sip constantly if need be to make your goals. Most of my early patients are sipping something almost all the time and still can't make the 60 oz / day goal right in the first days after being discharged, but you should be trying.

Help? So I'm not "hungry" at all.. in fact I felt like I a bit over did it when I drank 20 oz of Soup over the course of an hour earlier and I'm -definitely- not the least bit hungry after that but It was only about 25 grm Proteins too.. so I'm not sure if I should try to drink a glass Protein enforced milk to get me up to 40 or slt or just let my body tell me I'm full.. after all this is how I GOT in the position to need surgery.. I didn't listen to my body when it said I was full :\

you will not really be able to rely on your body to give you hungry/full feelings for a little while.

if you don't think you can tolerate some more Protein then sip your Clear liquids. and then rest. and then sip some more.

How far out from surgery are you? My liquid intake amount was gradual. By the end of the first week I was drinking 8 oz within 30 mins. They even gave me different size cups at the hospital to help.

There are eating schedules online to help keep on track of your goals.

How far out r u? 20 oz in an hour sounds like a LOT. I am 9 months out and that would be strain. There is a reason why they say "sip sip sip". How to get 64 oz in a day you ask (and yes that is the standard minimum goal for all WLS patients as well as human beings in general to avoid dehydration but with this as in all things please confirm with your doctor because no one on this forum is qualified to give medical advice). Anyway, if you take in 1 oz every 7.5 minutes, that would be 8 oz per hour for 8 hours you would make your 64 oz in a day. "Sip sip sip" is not a joke. It's a mantra and a way of life for newbies.

Don't believe a thing your body says right now. You're just a few days out of surgery. Right now your sleeve is a traumatized, stapled together, swollen sliver of a stomach and cannot hold very much at all. Everything that's happening now is a very temporary and artificial situation that won't last long.

In the meantime, your body still needs 64 ounces of liquids a day. So that's why the instruction "sip, sip, sip" is the correct instruction.

So for now sip, sip, and then sip some more.

In a few weeks, as the swelling of your new sleeve begins to relax and your sore throat feels better (they stuck a plastic tube down there during surgery) your ability to drink more at a time will return.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
