Day two post op and feeling ok. I came home yesterday and took a few naps. Today, I'm feeling much better. The nausea and gas pains are minimal. Still sore but haven't had to take pain meds since I left the hospital.

Day 4 post op update- I am feeling pretty good. I have only had nausea the day after surgery, and only for a little while. The pain is minimal, although my right incision (where they took my stomach out) is pretty sore. I've been wearing a binder on my belly since surgery and I feel that has helped quite a bit. My doc only wants me focusing on clear fluids this week, so that makes it easy to meet my fluids goal (64 ounces). I gained 6 pounds after surgery, but have lost all of that plus another 5! And the best part is, I'm not even hungry! Definitely recommend taking small sips of Water, etc. bigger sips get stuck and are painful. TMI Alert- I was able to have a BM 2 days post op, thank goodness. Gas x strips definitely help with gas. Well, there is my update. I will update in a few days.

Ok, Week one post op results:

Day of surgery- 276

Day after surgery- 282 (gained 6 lbs during surgery)

Current Weight- 263

I don't count the 6 pounds I gained and lost from surgery, so 13 pounds down from surgery in week 1. I'm definitely happy so far. Just minor soreness, no real hunger, and no nausea. Can't wait to see where I'll be in a few months. I just can't believe that two weeks ago, I weighed in at 290 (First day of pre-op diet, which was only one week).

Yay! I bet you feel amazeballs! Happy for you. Well done!

As for me, feeling great! No hunger but also no energy. I run around the house all day but need to get out and walk more. Don 11.3 since June 1. Whoooop!

Hi Heather, hope all went well. I went thru my surgery on June 8th. All went well and even though I am still in phase one as you are I know this was the right choice. Hopefully all went well with you and that you make this journey a success! Good luck!

Thanks. I have no regrets. I know these phases are only temporary and hopefully it will allow me some time to mentally prepare for all of the changes coming my way.

Doing well Heather thank you. One more week on the liquid phase to go. Yes, I also need to prepare for more of the mental changes coming my way. The hardest piece I have dealt with is drinking enough as I really haven't felt like it so far. It is hot here in PA and with exercising the need to drink is crucial. Hopefully you are having a good day and while I don't really know your whole journey, I'm proud to took the steps to be a healthier you. I've noticed in my journey support and friendship goes a long way.

Ok, 1 month post-op update. I consider myself one of the lucky ones who have been able to eat everything (on plan and healthy) with no issues. No nausea, no trouble getting stuff down, etc. Nothing has changed for me taste wise, everything tastes the same as it did before surgery. I have had no heartburn issues, although I do take prilosec every night, also before surgery. The bariatric Vitamins are disgusting (I got the capsules) so I will be trying to find new ones. I can't gag those down everyday for the rest of my life lol. So, time for stats.

June 1st- Start of pre-op diet- 290

June 7th-Day of surgery- 276

July 7th- Current weight-253

I did hit the dreaded stall for a week and a half, but started slowly going down again (which I'm ok with). My only real struggle is trying to get my 64 ounces of Water in. I knew it would be a struggle since I am never thirsty, and was like that before surgery. I usually hit my goal or pretty close, but it is a chore. How is everyone else doing?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
