I have my initial appointment on Tuesday. I was told that this appointment would be 4-5 hours in length as I would be attending a seminar and meeting with all of the staff.

How long after meeting with surgeon was it before you knew that he was going to accept you as a patient?

My insurance requires 6 months weight loss plan OR 3 months comprehensive plan (meeting with NUT and psych etc. on a regular basis). Do you think there is a chance I could have the surgery by the end of October? We have just about hot our deductible so my out of pocket expense will be much less if done by then.

i know for me.. i went to the seminar and it was there that i scheduled an appt to meet with my doctor. He handed me a checklist the day of my appointment of things i needed to get done. That was dec 2012 and i had my band done april 2013. Best of luck to you!

I attended a seminar on may5th, on May25th met with the team ( surgeon, nut and psych) I had six months supervised diet with my endocrinologist. Paper work is getting ready for submission, hoping for a July surgery. We're on May, October seems very realistic .

I am 3 years post-op RNY surgery. From the initial appointment with the surgeon until I had the surgery it took 9 months. There were 6 months supervised weight loss program, then over a month waiting for the insurance company to approve, then classes and pre-op testing, then second round of pre-op testing, then scheduling the surgery.

I think it would also depend on the type of surgery you are having.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
