Hello All, I'm new here and I'm 2 weeks post op from Bypass. I'm in the purée phase and have no desire to eat. I feel full all the time, but in my head I know I'm hungry and need to get in my Protein. A day of eating is I had 2 sips of a Protein shake, maybe 20oz of Water all day and I am not hungry at all and feel if I eat anything I will be sick. Has anyone experienced this ? Feel like bloated all the time. But I move all the time. I feel like a lot of this is mental. In my head I'm mad at my body so I am depriving myself cuz I can't do things my way. I've always been a water lover I still love it but I loved to chug water at a time. Now I can't and I'm mentally mad. Please tell me I'm not the only one dealing with these things?! Does anyone have a tips that worked for them?! Thank you for any advice or input. I know this is going to be a long journey and I have to change my mind set just seeing if there are things that I can make easier

Try freezing Protein Shake & eat with a spoon. It takes longer to eat and for me felt like I was eating . Also I was told do not use a straw to drink. I also used sugar free pop sickles to help with head hunger and to hydrate.

After surgery your body is in a major heal mode so it is common of patients to be unable to reach their Fluid and Protein requirements. But keep working at this each day and eventually you should get there.

The three most important things after surgery is meeting your daily Protein, fluids and Vitamins requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body.

One thing to remember on your daily Fluid requirements is that everything counts.

The Water or milk you drink.

The fluid in the Protein shake.

The Water you drink to swallow your Vitamins.< /p>

The water component of Soups.

Flavored drinks such as crystal light.

Tea and decaffeinated coffee.

Some people find temperature makes a big difference in their tolerance of fluids. Some like it hot while others like it cold.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
