Anybody able to eat chicken and rice casserole

Recommended Posts

I am preop currently but go in for surgery in two days. It was wondering when you get to the puréed stage if anyone had tried a chicken rice casserole. We are going on vacation about 25 days after surgery and I will be transitioning from puréed to soft foods. I was thinking this might be something good to take on vacation.

I should of ask how you tolerated the rice. I figured we would use canned chicken and make sure it is mashed really well.

I wasn't allowed to even try rice until cleared for full foods. I think that wasn't until 6 weeks out. It had to be brown rice. But same as @@LipstickLady it doesn't agree with me at all. At 6 months out I avoid it like the plague!

@@1975hoss - where are you going and how are you getting their? This would change my suggestions. Think moist Protein.

You might be able to, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Rice is empty , non nutritious calories that take up precious space in your teeny tiny tummy. There are a lot better high protein/low carb choices for the pureed/soft food stages. Try adjusting the recipe minus the rice. You could reducing the liquid and add unflavored Protein Powder to act as a binder.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
