3 months post op - little weight loss and digestion issues -help!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I was sleeved on March 2nd and at this point in time I am very disheartened in my journey. I have only lost 30 lbs thus far and feel I've fought very hard for even that which includes a lot of working out. I eat right and have been following the guidelines yet I am barely losing. Is anyone else having a similar issue? Most stories I see show significantly more weight loss within this timeline compared to me.

Additionally and this is tmi (sorry in advance) but at this point I have to ask - this far down the road does anyone else still experience extreme diarrhea? About 90% of the food I eat cases this to the point I'm afraid to eat with friends or go out if eating is involved. I never know what food will affect me, most cases a food that I previously ate and was fine with, may cause diarrhea a couple days later if I eat that food again. I can't find a common link that causes it. When I spoke with my doctor Activia and time was the only thing recommended but I'm almost 3 months out and still having this issue. Does anyone else experience this? Is so, is there anything you've tried that seems to help?

honestly, 30 pounds in that time frame is pretty good!

what is your starting weight?

as to the runs, are you on a probiotic? that can help. are you using a Fiber supplement or getting Fiber? if it keeps up and you are not happy with the clinic's answers see your primary doctor. they can refer you to a specialist.

Whoops forget those details - Starting weight 232, current weight is 202 and I am 5'7.

Thanks for the tip about fiber supplement, I am not on anything like that but that is a good idea to ask my doctor about. I am on a probiotic

I had band many years ago and am getting sleeve soon. I've suffered with this problem most of the past decade. For me I don't think it is directly related to the band and probiotic and fiber supplements have helped. I would also speak with your PCP and perhaps a Gastroenterologist. When I started the liquid phase it was constant but has eased up some. Good luck

First of all, your weight loss is outstanding, especially considering your low BMI starting point. You've lost far more than I had lost at 3 months and I never considered myself a slow loser.

Secondly, I'd say talk to your PCP or a gastro about your diarrhea. Have you been tested for C. Diff or other infections? And what Probiotics are you taking? Most of the OTC ones off the shelf are worthless....too few CFU and limited number of species. Look for ones with at least 20-30 different strains and 50-100 billion CFU. The best ones are found in the refrigerated section of most whole/health food stores. In addition to fiber and Probiotics, digestive enzymes can be very beneficial as well. Garden of Life as a good line of products that contain probiotics and enzymes.

I know you may not want to hear this but....losing 30 pounds in 3.5 months is better than gaining 30 pounds in 3.5 months. You are doing much better than you think and you should be very proud of yourself. I know this journey is a difficult one but I believe in the end it will be worth it. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Jess, my starting weight was 235.

My first four months I averaged 10 pounds/month.

After that, things slowed down.

;)

Want to hear the rest of the story?

I lost 100 pounds and now weigh 135 pounds, where I've been maintaining for many months.

It's not how fast you lose weight. It's that you lose weight, build a new lifestyle, and maintain your weight loss and become a healthy person.

:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
