This is hard to believe in even CONSIDERING surgery, let alone have my consultation Thursday. I just want to be skinny so bad. When I was 14, my mom said if I can ever fit into a size 2, she will buy me a new wardrobe. Now, 295 pounds (ish) and a size 22, it might actually be a reality. I just want it to happen. I don't have to do anything for the surgeon or insurance except get a psych evaluation. I'm hoping I can have the surgery by July 1, but since that's in like 5 weeks... I doubt it. I don't plan to tell anyone except my mom and husband. Idk what to do at this point, I'm driving myself crazy with researching and anticipating.

Best of luck. Let us know how you are doing through the process.

I do hope you are doing this for yourself and your health, and not because of unrealistic expectations from your mom, though.

Oh no, definitely for myself! I've wanted to do it for years but I didn't because I was embarrassed.

For me it was four weeks between my initial consult and surgery but I was self paid which does go faster. Just remember it is a tool and not a magic bullet you still have to work at it. You will still have issues with head hunger but the sleeve makes it so much easier to handle.

Take a deep breathe, relax... Getting this surgery is a process, you need all the patience you have to get from the start to the surgery...

There is also pre surgical testing, not sure if that's patient specific or everyone does all the same test but that will slow the process down too... It's going to happen, just might not be on your anticipated time table... Good luck

@@charley27, that's all the insurance requires... No surgeon is going to give you surgery without running some testing such as blood work, ekg etc... These test are for your safety.

Oh yeah blood work and ekg I'm sure. That's all stuff he will do in his office that I won't have to wait for.

I weigh 300 and I've just gotten to the point where I can't live the way I want to. I love my job as a teacher and it's getting harder to do it with all this weight to carry around and I'm with young kids I want to be able to play around with them, take field trips and not be limited or even have my own children and have enough energy to be with them when I get home

No, they don't do blood tests and EKGs in doctors' offices.

Those are done in medical labs where they have med techs and proper equipment.

Yep I've gotten many blood tests and EKGs in my doctors offices. If the surgeon nurses won't do it my pcp in the same building will like they have many many tomes

The only thing I want to say is please remember this surgery is just a tool. For lifetime changes it will take both psychological and behavioral changes that nobody can do but you. I wish someone had told me how much this process would change my life. I have no regrets. I am still learning. I wish everyone great health.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
