Rant: Rude people!

Recommended Posts

This past weekend I was at a restaurant with my family and as we were leaving my pants started falling down my butt. I had several bags in my hand plus my leftovers box so I tried to hurry out so I could put my things down and hike up my jeans. A server shouted "You need new pants!" and several people turned to look at me.

Um, thanks a$$hole. You want to buy me new jeans? Maybe take me on a shopping trip to Lane Bryant so you can pay $70 for a new pair of pants only for me to shrink out of those in a couple months as well?

I have three "good" pairs of pants and now that these pants are getting too big that means I have two "good" pairs. I am so glad I'm losing weight but at the same time this awkward between-sizes phase kind of sucks. I have a bin full of size 20 pants but I'm still too chubby for those so I have to wear my 22/24 pants in the meantime (which are getting too baggy). The weight loss is a slow and steady burn so I'm stuck in limbo for several weeks at a time. Ugh, wish I would lose weight faster but I know that's not realistic!

I wrote a letter to the manager of that restaurant. People need to learn to keep their mouths shut.

That is rude.... but a friend of mine joked "if your pants fall off, I am laughing at you!" It was a compliment.

So in the meantime, consider a belt, switching to skirts (much more forgiving!) or shopping at a thrift or consignment store. When you get a little smaller, stores like Ross Dress for Less can be a good resource. I have never paid more than about 8-10 bucks for pants at Ross.

I am at goal, but I have these long denim shorts that shimmy right off me - need that belt!

Good for you that you wrote to the manager. He would never know that the server is costing him customers, either because YOU won't go back or because the negative word of mouth (and burning YELP report with do some damage.

From the "Every cloud has a silver lining" department, we call this a NSV, Non-Scale-Victory.

Actually, dropped drawers is a first NSV for many of us.

I found that belts served a good function during this transition. Whenever the belts got too large, I punched new holes in them and cut off the ends.

@@CowgirlJane - certainly, if it was a friend razzing me for looking silly with baggy pants that's one thing. But it was the way he said it (with disgust and annoyance) and the volume he said it at (made sure plenty of other people would notice my sagging butt). Whether your customer dresses in sizes too large or too small for their body is not something one should comment on.

Yes, I suppose I need to invest in a belt but I HATE belts :( the buckle digs in to my belly when I sit down. Any recommendations for a softer type of belt??

And indeed, it is a NSV I'm proud of! I want these big ol' pants to get TOO big so I no longer have to pay the premium plus sized cost and enjoy shopping in the normal section of the store! But at the same time, I don't think I deserve to be mocked while dealing with the awkward in-between.

I would have laughed. But that's just me.

Thrift stores and clearance racks were my friend as I was losing. Please wear clothes that fit your new body as you're shrinking. You feel so much better when you're not wearing clothes that are baggy and falling off of you. You're worth it.

@@needtorecover I also recommend thrift stores. I just go a nearly new pair of 7even (LB) jeans at Salvation Army for $6.00. I am not a belt wearer either - and even now pre-surgery - I have an issue with my favorite Levi's falling down. I'm sure you'll be in the lower size in no-time. Congrats on your success so far!

Burks outlet has both stores and online shopping if there's not one in your area. I get really nice brand name jeans there for $20 or less. It's the only way I've been able to get clothes as I've gone down in size so fast.

I would suggest Old Navy, if you keep a check online, there is usually a good percentage off on Monday or Tuesday... Later in the week there is a percentage off but usually not as high. Think that store sounds perfect for all you skinny women dropping sizes so quickly

As a lifetime fatty, I can testify that some people in the general public are dicks and always will be. Don't give them a 2nd thought. They will find something to make fun of, if it isn't you being fat, it will be you with your pants falling off. Hold your head up because YOU are making the steps to a healthier, happier life and all they can do is make fun of people.

You can take a scarf and use it as a belt. Or you can try dapper-snappers looped through two of your belt loops. I stole one from my kids and it works well to keep my pants up without being distracting. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003IXVFLO/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_a_it?qid=1463602382&sr=8-2&keywords=dapper+snapperπ=SY200_QL40

I get that - not a big fan of belts myself, so I take my pants in a bit as they get roomy. If you don't use a sewing machine, barter with someone who does, or know that dry cleaners are good about doing this, and you can just say "2 inches" instead of having them fit you. It's usually pretty cheap, and worth it when you're down to just a couple pair you can wear.

You will be buying hot new pants and shrinking - her attitude and personality that caused the comment, she's likely stuck with forever!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
