30 days out- the good and bad

Recommended Posts

Today marks 30 days post up. Here are some of my observations

GOOD- lost 33 pounds since the surgery. I did not have a pre op diet. Recovery went great. I've been eating solid food since day 13. I am eating 3-4 oz of Protein per meal, fish is easiest, chicken takes a while to eat. Never had nausea, no vomiting. A lot of energy when I wake up in the morning. I get 70-80 oz of Water a day. Got clearance this week for light weight lifting, and anything cardio, including playing basketball( no swimming yet). Fat clothes are way too big now, I've moved on to the skinnier clothes I bought last year when I thought I was going to lose the weight. Surgeon said I don't have to see him for 2 months.

Bad- Vitamins have been tough. If there is an awesome tasting multi, please share with me. Mine are just awful. I'm getting better though at taking them. 2 of my incisions are giving me a hard time. Got a bit swollen and slightly infected. A little drainage. Better this week though. I have to learn how to chew my food better. I sometimes forget that I can't take massive bites and I payed for it with immediate pain. I have also forgotten not to drink with eating. Big mistake because you get filled up with one bite.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
