Ohio gal with June 3, 2016 surgery

Recommended Posts

Welcome Amy! I'm a fellow Ohioian, Northeast Ohio as in Cleveland. Where are you in Ohio? I am one month post-op and had surgery at The Cleveland Clinic with Dr. Phillip Schauer.

Where are you having surgery and when? Or do you not have an exact date yet?

I'm kinda worried because I woke up with a pretty bad cough. I was suppose to have surgery in Dec but got pneumonia. I have a history of bronchitis and pneumonia. I REALLY hope I'm not getting sick again!

I hope for your sake you are not getting sick again either! I know there has been a cold working its way around up here in Ohio. Luckily (knocks on wood) I haven't gotten anything like that. I am feeling really good! Unless I overdo it (like I did Sunday with gardening), I wouldn't even know that I had surgery one month ago. I've lost at least 35 lbs so far (may be more; I haven't weighed myself in about a week or so) and I'm loving how much lighter I feel already. I don't regret doing this for one second. I did this because of diabetes being extremely difficult to control. Although I'm still using insulin, I had to lessen the amount I use last weekend, and my numbers are staying within excellent controlled range. This is the payoff for me. The weight loss is just an added bonus.

Keep my updated on your progress as you work your way towards June 3rd! Take care.

Try a good probiotic daily as well. Definitely keeps your immune system up there!

Okay everyone. It is official Bronchitis! Surgery is 3 weeks away. Does anyone know if there is a set period of time my doc is going to want me healthy before surgery. I don't want to postpone it again!

Hi, I'm in Columbus too. Having surgery at Mount Carmel West with Dr. Miller. I was actually hoping for early August but I am going to have to put mine off until October I think. I am in desperate need of a total knee replacement!!! I am really kind of devastated about it but know that in the long run i will be better off. I also work for Mount Carmel at a Pulmonary specialists office and I think, as someone else said, as long as your lungs are clear you should be fine.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
