1 month out-how many calories?

Recommended Posts

At my 1-month follow up, i was getting in about 600 calories a day. The dietician and trainer wouldn't let me start exercise until i got it up to 800 calories a day.

Im 3 weeks out and getting in about 800. I track on calorieking. I try to get a large portion of my Protein in at Breakfast time with a smoothy with two scoops of Protein powder and low fat milk and fruit (about 350 calories, 60g protein), then a Soup or puree stew for lunch (200 cals, 15g protein), then some soft of puree veg and Protein for dinner plus sometimes I have a snack of soft cheese (remaining 250 + 10g protein).

Now, not every day is like that!! Some days I try something new (like eggs) and spend most of the day nauseous and cant get much else in!! But a good day looks like that :-)

I was frankly shocked at reading some of the responses to your question. My first suggestion is for you to ask your nutritionist as it probably depends on your starting weight. Personally I wasn't eating more than 350-400 calories at 1 month. I was encouraged to exercise the day I came home from the hospital (day 2 post op).

We can only digest about 20-30 grams of protein an hour. Doubling or tripling up on protein for one meal is not doing you any good. You would be much better off spreading your protein out throughout the day.

To the OP, focus on getting in all of your protein and fluids and the calories should fall into place. You need protein for healing and weight loss. The calories are secondary.

As someone else mentioned, you probably won't want to do any intense exercise until you are able to get you calories up to about the 1000 calorie range.

I'm 4 weeks 2 days and

only able to get in 600 calories from 2-3 meals and 1 Protein shake.

Yes I meet my Protein and Fluid intake. At the end of the day when I look at my daily food chart I add up the calories which usually are 500-600 and don't really care. Then I add up the protein and Fluid

60-65g protein 64-70oz fluid and get really happy another great day of success healthy eating.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
