@@lat72 - depends on your doctor and maybe your insurance requirements.

If you don't mind me asking how long did you have to lose it, as in pre-op? What were the reasons why you didn't?

Pre-op there maybe a very big reason why he wanted you to eat a particular diet, and maybe lose 5lbs, that is why I am asking.

My surgeon is requiring a 5% weight loss before they will even submit to insurance. At first I totally rebelled - obviously I can't lose weight, that's why I'm here! That combined with a "last supper" mentality caused me to gain 6 lbs between my first and second appointments. I realized that there was work I had to do with my relationship around food, that it's not a punishment but rather a learning process that is teaching me how to manage food and get used to tracking so I know that my body is getting what it needs, and I started dilligently tracking my food and saying "no" to most treats. Now I see the presurgery weight loss requirement as another building block that will make me stronger and more successful after I'm sleeved.

Speak with the surgeon or nutritionist and have them explain the reason behind the 5 lb requirement, that should contextualize it and before you know it, those pounds will be gone.

@@lat72 - your surgery is next Tuesday. I would get in touch with your nutritionist and get a plan.

No salt, Water, move, no carbs, sugars, move some more, Water, Protein first and write down everything.

You have to start looking at food as 'fuel' for your body.

I would still call my NUT TODAY!

You got this!

keep us posted:D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
