Post Op - Full Liquid phase

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 1 week post surgery and am in the full liquid phase. I'm dying. I can't handle any more sweet Protein or Soup. Just the thought is making me nauseous...does anyone have any suggestions?? I don't know how I will make it another week.

start trying some different Soups, may nit be what you want to hear but...

some things that my dic has o.k.ed that seem to really help me are creamy potatoe Soup seasoned well. make mashed potatoes and thin it out with milk or broth until it is a soup... makes you feel like your eating something good!

refried bean soup.... thin them out with broth add some taco sauce, yum!

just start thinking out side the box on what types of soup you can blend and strain that will do well. the more different flavors i can add the better i do and the more satisfied i feel! you can do it!!!

I was allowed any strained cream Soup during my full liquid phase, so there were a LOT of options. I literally bought every single one my grocery store had. My favorites were Campbell's condensed cream of shrimp made with 2% milk and Progresso's chicken cheese Enchilada. I was also allowed drinkable yogurt in my full liquid phase, so maybe that would be an alternative to soup or Protein Shakes if you are tired of those?

My nutritionist let me have ricotta after I told her I wasn't going to make it. I am like you, I can't stand the sweet shakes and have had it up to here with yogurt. Also she let me mix Heinz gravy with unflavored Protein powder and some broth.

I mean to clarify by "wasn't going to make it" I was in tears and gagging on everything that was allowed.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
