Cruise 3 months post op

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I'll be 3 months post op in July. I will be going on a cruise then (July 23rd) and I had my surgery April 27. Has anyone had experience with cruising after this surgery? Quite nervous for it... Although I've never been much of a buffet eater. Thanks!!!! Any tips are much appreciated.

I love cruising, I'll miss all the food. The chocolate buffet and the tropical drinks are my favorites.

As long as you stick with your program you should be on.

Tips... Depends On what your trigger foods are. Stay away from them. Like for me I'd have to stay away from the chocolate buffet and the bar

Keep busy, last cruise I went on i sept only 5 hours, we were so busy doing stuff onboard

I'm only 21 and the good thing is I don't drink-alcohol or sodas. My weakness are Pasta, rice and pizza. I'm just concerned how much food I'll even be allowed to eat by then I dont want to be filled with anxiety my entire trip not knowing what I eat.

IMHO, unless you have some odd post-op complications, you should be good to cruise 3 months post-op.

Just make good choices, which you can do at that point, since you'll be on real food. Protein. Protein first. Veggies and a little fruit (by that point). Lots of Water. :)

There will be alot of options for you - except maybe late night. Pack some Protein shakes and bars just in case.

If you find yourself in a buffet situation, try to grab a smaller plate from the get go (think salad or dessert area). Tiny bits of many things add up quickly to a huge plate that you won't be able to eat, but you may find that you overdo.

Buffets are kinda perfect because lots of people just get small tastes of things, so the fact you are getting small amounts will go unnoticed.

If you like seafood, you should have plenty of options of things to eat. Moist seafood goes down easy and you can eat it in amounts that will allow you to meet your Protein goals.

Watch out for sauces, since they usually have sugars and carb thickeners.

You can do this and have fun. I went to Belize 3 1/2 months after surgery. I had no problems at all. Looked for Proteins to eat at each meal. I did take some Protein Bars with me, but only ate 1/2 of one a day. We stayed so busy doing activities that it wasn't much of a problem. I am also one of those people that can have a bite or 2 of desert or such and be completely satisfied. Go have fun and don't worry about it. You will be great. It is a vacation. It will just be one that you eat a lot less on. It seems scary at first, but you will learn to adjust to eating in the real world. I am a little over 9 months out now. I have been out of the country 4 times since surgery without a problem at all.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
