Five Days Post-Op & First real test

Recommended Posts

I had surgery just this past Friday. About fifteen minutes ago, I received a phone call from my sister, informing me that my grandmother passed away. When I was younger, I was particularly close to her. Then, I moved across country and hadn't traveled home to see her in a few years.

She was 103 years old, so I am not truly surprised, especially since she had had two recent heart attacks that resulted in her being placed in a nursing home. She hated being there, and I feel her spirits were crushed.

food has always been my coping mechanism. Feel happy. Get a treat. Feel sad. Get a pick-me-up. Well, now that a good portion of my stomach is gone, I'm going to have to find something--rather quickly--to help me get through this time.

Sorry for unloading. Writing helps me process my emotions.

I'm sorry you and yours are going thru a tough time...

I know it sounds silly to offer assistance but sometimes a chat with a friendly, non-judgmental stranger can help - even if just for that moment...

Do take care...

Jason

sorry for your loss... Something I try as an alternate copping method is coloring or puzzles.... That sometimes is difficult because you will be in a "social" situation along with emotional.

I am so sorry for your loss. Take this time to Celebrate YOUR new path to health. You've taken a huge step to ensure that you will live a longer and healthier life and I do believe that your grandmother's spirit will live on with you as you lose the weight and regain the years you would have lost as an obese person.

Walk, zumba, sing, dance, Celebrate who she was ans who she always will be in your life. You don't need food to do that.

Hugs.

@@Kooky1 - so sorry to hear about your Grandmother, what a great life - 103.

Stay focused on your plan and you know your coping mechanism (food). Was there something you two liked to do together, non food related? Honor her memory by staying your course.

If you slip, then pick yourself up and get back on track. Most of us have done that, fallen off, crawled back up in the saddle...

She would want you to continue on working towards being healthier l am sure.

I'm truly sorry for your loss. We've had so much illness and death in our family in recent years. I believe I understand what you're going through.

The spirits of our departed are so much "in the air" at times like these.

Perhaps your grandmother is still there with you ... letting you know she loves you and wants only the best for you and is supporting you. I'm sure she loves you at least as much as you love her. And love never, ever, ever dies.

I'm sorry for your loss I'm sure your struggle with food dependency as a mood enhancer (like myself as well) is going to be tough, but remember why you had the surgery and I'm sure your grandmother would want this as well! Try doing another passion you have as a coping mechanism. When I feel that urge I go and play guitar for a bit to appease those feelings. My heart goes out to you! I

Thank you everyone. I like watching movies as an escape. I think I'll do that today.

Sorry to hear about your loss. And know that God makes no mistakes when he calls our loves ones home. Just as surely as we are born we have to return back to him. Your love for your grandmother will always be in your heart Ned remember the good times that you shared with her. Her soul is gone but her spirit will always be with you. Our struggles and weakness is those things that we have to renew our minds over. So yes renewing your mind is finding things to help us to overcome so enjoy the movie with a healthy snack.< /p>

God bless you all. This will be a test but you will pull through. We need to get through our emotional eating. Try in channel your emotions in to something else.

Sorry for your loss, I lost my best friend, my rock, my only person I had to run to,my grandpa which is why I have this obesity problem. I drowned my depression in food. I thought it was making me feel better, until last year I realized it was making things worse than my depression. It caused me to have a heart attack. So now I faced my problems head on and now when the damn depression kicks in I walk it out, I finally decided it's not going to get the best of me. Not that I don't cheat every now and then but I'm getting stronger everyday

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
