Really nervous about my endoscopy tomorrow...

Recommended Posts

I had an upper endoscopy last summer so luckily I don't need another one before my surgery. Honestly, my experience couldn't have been better. It was quick and painless. I had little to no pain or discomfort with my throat. One second I was getting an IV put in, the next I was talking to the anesthesiologist, then I woke up and everything was over. I was loopy as all hell, I remember asking the nurses why they were wearing all white and just being very talkative and annoying lol. Maybe I just take things lightly but my endoscopy hardly effected me. I took a nap when I got home but I felt 100% fine.

I also got my wisdom teeth removed last month and they told me (I don't remember at all) that when I came to afterwards I was singing loudly because they let me keep in headphones for the procedure lol. As soon as I was conscious they told me not to speak because I had already stressed my jaw enough jamming out while out of it. My doctor said the throat pain after the sleeve is similar to that of an endoscopy so hopefully with these past experience I'll be in a little happy place momentarily after surgery :P

Mine was super easy. They did put me under general anesthesia for it. Woke up afterwards no discomfort at all. My first IV and first time being knocked out so helped with anxiety for the surgery.

I was terrified too! I went in and the nurse and doctor spoke with me briefly. They have you lie on your side and then start threading the camera tube down - and I gagged, badly! I heard the doctor tell the nurse "Give her more of..." something and then I don't remember a thing.

I've had several, and each time they put the plastic bit in my mouth after having me swallow a liquid. I had to stay awake long enough for the tube to get past my tonsils, then it was sleepy time.

Thanks for the info and support, guys! They did put me under general anesthesia and it was like nothing. I'm hoping this will prepare me for going into my sleeve surgery - I was really impressed with how well I was treated by all the nurses.

I am scared of having this done as well, but I go in for my consultation on the 10th and will be scheduled to have my done. I had one once before when I had the lap band. I was out of it and didn't even know that I had one done until the doctor told me that he had performed one on me. I hope this one goes just as well...Glad yours went well !

I know they will give me something to relax beforehand, but I just can't see myself not freaking out and gagging to the point where they can't do the procedure. My surgeon wants me to have one because I have a hiatal hernia.

Has anyone had an endoscopy? How did it go?

They will put you to sleep I had it done three times

I have my initial appt for endoscopy tomorrow. They also think I have a hiatyl hernia. Not looking forward to it either. But it's the last step before getting my surgery date.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
