Single with dog; Sleeve in 2 weeks

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I live alone and having sleeve surgery in 2 weeks. In the past I have recovered at home by myself after 2 micro discectomies on my spine , a hernia repair and a screw put in my right wrist.

Will I be able to recover by myself this time also?

What things did you need help with, if anything?

I also have a little 15 lb dog. When will I be able to bend to the floor to fill his food and Water bowls? 1st day at home, or 3rd day or 1 week, etc.

When we you able to drive?

Kind regards,

Steve

When I had my surgery I was single with 2 cats and a dog. The dog gave me no problems! I had to brace my abdomen with one arm for the first few days when I reached down for her bowls (or anything else) but that was not a big deal. She was super happy that I was home for a couple of weeks and we went for several walks every day.

The cats were a different story -- lifting kitty litter and picking up cats were a no go for weeks, plus I had one that liked doing a kamikaze dive onto my stomach while I was napping. Ouch!

Keep in mind that if you are used to picking your dog up for anything, you'll have to develop workarounds for at least a few weeks.

I had two cats and when I was just chilling on the couch I kept a pillow on my tummy. one of my cat's favorite spot is to curl up on my chest, so that way she could still do it and it didn't bother me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
