A year out from surgery, what is your daily diet consist of?

Recommended Posts

I wonder when we talk of small portion sizes that we eat now, how the size compares with a person who 'naturally' weighs the same? The portions are tiny for us because most of us ate much, much more pre surgery. I mean supermodels eat extremely small amounts. What I mean is, are we eating the same amount as other people our goal weight and it only seems small to us, or is it a 'normal' portion for our size? If anyone can understand that ?

@@FinallyFree! ... good point about portion sizes.

When someone says, "I eat only small portions ...." I know I don't know how large or small their portions really are.

When someone says, "I ate 3 ounces of chicken ...." I assume they either (1) actually weighed the chicken they ate or (2) they guesstimated how much chicken they ate, in which case they were either right or they were wrong.

Portion creep happens. I have to periodically measure everything to keep creep from happening on my plate.

And the one food I ALWAYS have to measure (or I will always under-guesstimate how much I'm eating) is cheese. Damn, cheese. I love it so much. ;) And that's why I keep weighing it.

Good point. I adore cheese. I can see I will have to put in some structures. I am still on mash but I learn from you guys, and bookmark the warning bells. Thanks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
