Image after plastics

Recommended Posts

Ok, so as I have posted before I am having some image issues after VSG. I have lost around 70 pounds and have gone from a size 18 to a size 5/6 or 7/8 depending on the clothing I buy. The problem is that I still see the "fat girl" I still see the 240 pound girl that I was a year ago.

Everyone I know has told me how awesome I look and that I don't need to lose more weight. The problem is that I don't see it. I know for a fact that I have lost the weight but for some reason it doesn't compute to my brain. I can't explain this and when I try to explain no one gets it. It's almost like I feel that they think I'm a mental case :) LOL.

Anyway - question is, after you had your TT and got the flat skinny tummy (and possibly breasts for the women) did the image issues resolve themselves or did it still take time after that to see and believe you were skinny?

Often it takes awhile for our head to catch up with our bodies, I think.

I found actual pictures helped me believe that I was a "normal" size. Sometimes I couldn't believe it. Even now, years later , I can still be surprised that I actually look lean-ish.

The TT helped resolve the image I had stuck in my head. But still, I find myself surprised sometimes.

After 2 1/2 yrs I still struggle with size perception, I can't look at a girl on the street and say to myself ok I'm that size. It's crazy I know I've lost over 111 pounds but I have no idea what that is when I try to compare. I'm hoping the problem will work itself out after plastics as the loose skin makes me feel bigger than I am. If anyone else is around 143 pounds and height is 5.3 I would love to see pictures of you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
