I don't want people at work to know about my wls. What have you used if you choose to keep this matter private? I was thinking of saying, if anyone wants to visit me in hospital, that I had a hernia repair or is that too far fetched?

@@twins2016 - just remember whatever you decide to do, that most people cant keep secrets so if you DONT want anyone to know then keep it to yourself. Sad, I know....

You don't have to say anything other than "I just have a little something I need to take care of". Because I offered nothing further, people have known not to press for details.

I wouldn't dream of letting anyone from work visit me in the hospital. I didn't tell anyone from work what hospital I was even in.

If you are keeping this from people - I would not invite anyone to visit you in the hospital. For that matter - I wouldn't want anyone to visit me even if I told them the truth.

All valid points! I'm a very private person and don't want to deal with office politics. I'll be self pay so insurance won't factor in plus I have insurance through my husbands work.

My co-worker implied "female problems". Men in particular didn't ask any more questions.

You can be vague and just state "I am having a minor procedure." and leave it at that. Most people won't push the issue. If they do you can reply that you prefer to not discuss it.

Hernia repair seems to be a favorite "white lie".

I told the world so I don't have personal experience with prevaricating about it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
