Pre-op...waiting to schedule consult

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I am new to this forum as well. I started my journey back in July 2015. I had my sleep study completed and then I had to register for a weight management class which is required by my insurance which is Kaiser. I had to wait until November to take the class because they fill up fast. The class lasted eight weeks and after the class I attended the orientation on January 27. My next step was to have an hour-long appointment with the nutritionist and social worker. I completed that on April 20 and also had my blood drawn the same day. Now I'm just waiting for the bariatric team to review my chart on May 4 and then call me to schedule a consultation with the surgeon. The process is so long but it is definitely well worth it. I'm so excited to get the call for my next step. I am so glad that I found this forum and glad that I have all of you for support. I would love to hear how your journeys are going and any advice that you have.

Yay congrats! I'm currently a month into my 6 month supervision required by my insurance! Surgery will be sometime in November, December. I cannot wait!

Thanks for the reply!! I have seen a lot of people saying they have had to do the 6 month supervised diet. Stay strong and you can do it girl!!! I am hoping for a June surgery date! The bariatric department has only 3 surgeons so the dates fill up fast! I have lost 41lbs so far. Hopefully time will fly for both of us! Good luck and I hope the journey goes smoothly for you!

I'm on month 2 of 6 month diet. Loosing a little nut not much. I've already got everything done just doing this diet. Surgery is either in sept or oct. The dietician never gave me #s , like how many carbs, Protein, etc., so I'm just guessing until my next appt.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
