Starting the process...

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I'm in the process of getting the Lapband. I have my first appointment with Dr. Lautz in Massachusetts on September 27th. That's the earliest appointment I could get, I've been waiting for a month now, another month and 1/2 to go. Hopefully Dr. Lautz thinks that I would be a good condidate. My PCP thinks so. I have no medical uses other than a thyroid problem and my bmi is 43. I call once a week to see if they have any earlier appointment due to cancellations. Every week they tell me know. I guess everyone wants to be thin! ::)

How is everyone doing? Any comments on your lapband?

Rosita

Thanks! I'm so excited. I really haven't told anyone about it, except my kids. Michael doesn't want me to do it. I think he's afraid that something would happen to me.

Wow, you'll have the surgery that soon after your consultation. I was told that it would be three months after consultation. I'm thinking surgery will be end of December or begining of January 2008.

HI Angel,

Well, I'm not really sure if it will go that quick, but my friend went for her nutritional assessment and got her surgery date in one month and we are going to the same group of surgeons - so I should say I'm HOPING to go in October, but not sure. I still have to wait for all the results of my blood work, cardiac, chest xray etc... to see if I'm even a viable candidate for the surgery, so all in good time!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
