Band to Bypass journey has now begun ....

Recommended Posts

Saw my surgeon on Monday and he feels that the decision to move forward with band revision to bypass is the best option for me . I am attending my first of 2 required support group meetings tonight and waiting to receive the list of names and numbers to set up the rest of appointments required by this specific bariatric program. I am hoping within 2- 2.5 months from now I can be ready for my new chapter. Can I please get some updates from people that have been revised and the first few months ... how did your life change ? pain , discomfort , new foods , tired , any thing to put this whole journey into a realistic perspective.

Good luck! All I can say is that the pain the first few weeks is all! Then you will be on your way to losing slowly but surely and you will not be disappointed! We who had the band to bypass lose a bit more slowly than just straight forward bypass patients. It's not a problem you will thank your lucky stars your doing this for yourself! Good luck

I had my lap band removed and got my rny bypass 8 days . The pain waking up was intense . More than I've heard first time rny patients describe .... My opinion is just because of the additional time it took to remove the band and then do the bypass leaves more co2 gases floating around in your body . It wasn't unbearable and they quickly got it under control in the recovery room . I was able to walk the halls every 2 hours between resting and that helped a lot. Day 4 I felt pretty much back to normal except I usually tire around 2 pm and 7 pm . Then I just lay down for a rest and I'm good to go. I eat and measure according to my surgeons guidelines and I don't feel hunger, but I don't feel full. Or what I've come accustomed to with the band and that " full in your throat" feeling. This rny feels so much more comfortable and normal as far as swallowing and that port being gone. I have lost about 10-13 lbs but the scale hasn't moved in several days and that's ok with me. I knew it would be slow losing after having a previous weight loss surgery so when it moved 10 lbs in the first week , I was thrilled. I'm considered a lightweight anyhow so I'm preparing for slow and steady loss.

So the journey is getting closer .. I have completed all of my prerequisites labs, ekg, overnight oximetry, psych , exercise consult just waiting on my last one and that's the GI specialist and then EGD ..... Once that's completed its time to wait for that nerve wracking insurance approval ... And 2 week preop diet ... I'm getting excited and ohhhh so ready to move on to this next journey

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
