Hi Group,

I was wondering how soon after surgery were you all able to exercise? I have a bum knee that needs to be replaced, but it seems as though walking in the preferred method of exercise. I literally cannot walk for any extended period of time. I love doing Water aerobics and don't know how quickly I'll be able to get back in thew Water. What has worked for you all?
I appreciate your feedback!

Actually I was up and walking within 3 hours after surgery. When I was in the weight loss phase, I walked 30 minutes per day, every day for a year. Since you have a bum knee, Water aerobics would be good for you. I would think that you could start relatively soon after surgery. Just give you sutures a little time to heal and if you have a port wait until they remove it and that heals. You might consult with your surgeons office for the go ahead.

I have a bad knee and mobility issues so I didn't do any serious exercise until I was cleared to get in the water. I walked some but not very intensely or very far.

I was cleared for the pool at 4 weeks. But you need to walk before that. Start small. Do what you can. As you lose it should get a little easier on your knee.

I was an abberation. I walked a 5k 3 weeks after surgery. I was walking a mile almost as soon as I got out of the hospital.

You can only do what you can do. You will feel better if you walk in short spurts, but frequently. Take it slow. You can do it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
