Daily calories and exercise

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm about 2.5 months out from band to sleeve revision. I'm down 13 pounds since surgery. I'm very pleased!!

I'm exercising daily - mainly walking/hiking outside with my dog or on the elliptical at the gym. I'm starting a "personal fitness quest" at the gym tomorrow (once a week butt kicking by a PT basically lol).

Most days I have to remind myself to eat. I just went from liquids to puréed a couple weeks ago. I still drink at least one Protein shake per day most days - some days I just can't choke one down.

This week I feel like I'm starving all day long. I just started my cycle. Wondering if that has something to do with my feeling so hungry. Nothing else is new or different really. Is my exercising catching up to me?

I generally get up to 800 calories when I'm using my skim milk and fruit in my shakes and sometimes close to 900. Since I started puréed foods I've made puréed tuna (with spicy mustard) and chicken (buffalo chicken) and eat maybe half a cup of food in a meal. I like cream of whet but not really much Protein there...if I have it I have it with the fairlife skim milk which has 13g of protein per cup. But sometimes diary makes me feel nauseous.

So any advice? I think I'm eating the right amount of food. I'm eating my protein first. I'm constantly sipping Water. I just find it so strange to be feeling this hungry!

I think the hunger feeling is pretty normal with everyone. It could be head hunger but I felt starved also at times early on. I don't know why. It sounds like you have the perfect routine going so just keep at it. Its early on for you so don't stress. This works. I am over 2 years post op now. I eat whatever I feel like eating. Its weird because I think that I am eating too much for a while and then I get on the scale, after not weighing for over a month, and I am down a few more pounds. Its really incredible. What I have noticed is that I don't have any favorite food anymore. Nothing really appeals to me and I miss that. You have to realize that you can't give in to the starving sensation because if you overeat it really hurts until it digests. You probably will do this at least once but you won't do it again. Measure everything until you can eyeball the correct portion size. You will get used to it. Good luck.

I had my revision on 3/8/16 and I'm down 30# since initial weigh in at the first appointment. Not sure what I weighed on the day of surgery. I've had a few times when I had a "starving" feeling, but if I just drink something or eat something it goes away and I move on. I am struggling with finding things that I want to eat. Nothing really appeals to me. I had something with more sugar than I thought it had because I wasn't paying attention, and it gave what can only be described as the dumping syndrome. I won't ever do that again! I'm not a sugar/sweets person anyway.

I'm finding that my go-to food is turkey chili and avocado, with a little cheese. I know it sounds crazy, but it satisfies me and I get enough Protein out of it.

The shakes are a struggle, and I have not been able to finish one in the last couple of weeks. I just can't get past the smell and the taste. My nurse says that will get better and my nut says to get away from the shakes anyway. She's not a fan and I'm desperately glad to hear it! I just need to use My Fitness Pal to track my eating to make sure I get enough Protein. I have bought some of the New whey shots, which I understand are not favored by all, but I've done my research and I'm ok with them. They are small, pack 42g of protein, I can stomach them, and they were one of the sources of protein recommended by my doctor's office.

All in all, I'm feeling very good about my surgery and recovery. I had my follow up appt. today and was released to return to full activities and instructed to start exercising. It is a struggle that I have yet to overcome. I did buy some new workout shoes, now I just have to put them on and get to steppin'!

I go back for my next visit in six months. That's not until the fall. I am really looking forward to what summer brings!

Thanks for the replies.

It's just been a weird week I guess lol! I'm doing a lot better today in regards to not feeling like I'm starved. I made it.

It's been a learning experience going from the band to the sleeve for sure.

I've not hear of the whey shots I might look into that. I really don't know know if I can drink another shake. Unless I switch back the Syntrax nectar. I still have the Twisted cherry and grape. Those are more like Fruit drinks than shakes but still give me 20g of Protein for 100 cals. Just none of the Vitamins and minerals of a Meal Replacement.

I feel great about the surgery too and am so glad I did it. I've done better with the sleeve in the first 2 months than I did with the band in 6 years.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
