Suggestions on filling out the packet

Recommended Posts

I am filling out the packet for my surgeon, I wonder if there is anything I should stress on here, I put I was depressed because of my weight and have anxiety. is is better to let them see how bad you feel about yourself or not, I think this part will go to my pschiatric evaluation. I just want to do everything correct.

I put the same thing - depressed because of weight and anxiety on the surgery packet (which is true). For the psych eval, I put the same thing but I didn't answer the questions in a way that indicated I was really depressed (which i'm not... i'm just depressed because i'm overweight, everything else in my life is going okay!). I was approved by the surgeon & psychologist, so you shouldn't have anything to worry about either! Goodluck!

I was wondering about all of that, too! Like, I don't want to be dishonest, but I want toput what they want to hear! I'm very good with words, I'm sure I could find a way to make dang near anything they want apply to me, short of having male gentalia or a 2nd head. :tea:

I was honest, but I made sure I didn't seem crazy.

They hinted at, would I kill myself if I didn't do well with the band.. and I wouldn't of course.. Wanted to know my reasons for wanting the band.. making sure they weren't superficial (CAUSE I WANNA WEAR A BIKINI GAH!) hehe.

Being depressed/anxious about being overweight is typical and normal.. but they want to know you'd be committed to it, that you would not thing it's the end of your world if you didn't do well, that you understand what it can (and can not) do for you.

Just don't write an article about how this is your last resort and you'll blow your brains out if you don't lose 100lbs in 6 months..or that you expect the band to do everything while you sit back and relax. Be realistic.. be honest! My doctor monitors how you feel after the band.. when I go in for check ups, he asks me about my depression/anxiety--if it's changed.. I said I didn't have any going in.. I really didn't, I just needed my back to stop hurting. Now I actually do have anxiety and depression from my expectations, but that's another story!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
