Help with choosing vitamins.

Recommended Posts

sublingual B12, Vitamin D3.

Make sure your Multi-Vitamin is chewable, not a big horse pill or a Gummy. Walmart may also carry liquid multi-vitamin (Wellesse is a common brand) that might be good for post-op.

If you have a Trader Joe's near you I've found that their Vitamins are cheaper than Walmart. I've been taking their High Potency Chewable multi-vitamin for 2.5 years and my labs have always been great.

My first year, I took Celebrate Vitamins ( available online) .My 1 year post op lab work was really good w/exception of my B12 level, which was really high. So now I am on chewable flinstone, Wellesse liquid Calcium w/vitamin d3 both of these you can get at Walmart.

I take a b12 every other day, but I buy it at GNC, (I believe under $7).

I use Nature's Valley gummies. I know everyone says not to, but my doctor ran tests and they were fine. Just chew them really well so that your body will absorb it all.

This is the handout I was given at my first appt with the dietitian... Every MD is different so this is just what my program recommends... Maybe it will help... I am prep op so I am taking the Multivitamin (Celebrate chewable Multivitamin with iron) at this time as well as Biotin (BariMelts) and Vitamin D (I was low on Vitamin D in my pre op blood work so the MD gave me prescription Vitamin D)

@@becomingmandikaye my surgeon was Dr Seymour at Duke... Do you go there as well? When is surgery?

@@Pink_Ninja I'm with Dr. Yoo @ Duke. Surgery is June 15th!

The plan is sleeve, unless they find something in my endoscopy (June 6th!) that would necessitate bypass.

I'm in *a* May/June Sleevers group, got added today. Not sure if it's the right one?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
