Working out and your stages

Recommended Posts

Can you all chime in and tell me at what stage did you feel comfortable doing certain things? Im 2 weeks 5 days post op...and my husband is an avid gym enthusiast... I would go to the gym with him...and i want to go back...TO WALK..see how my body does...and i mean slow walk to start...

The only restriction i have is no lifting over 15lbs. Which i don't plan to do any lifting for a while...

***So curious where did you start when you went back and what where you comfortable doing***

Yes i know im healing and YES I WILL take it easy not looking to hurt myself but walking around the house/work is not enough exercise

Hi! I am almost 3 weeks out and I started walking when for 2-3 minutes at a time when I got home from the hospital and slowly increased it. I am now walking 10 minutes twice a day. I get tired out, but after resting, I get better. Everyone is different. My surgeon told me to listen to my body and that is what I do. Feeling really good!

I'm two weeks out and I walk 1 1/2 miles every day. My legs hurt and I'm drained so as soon as I'm done I relax for a few hours to let my body regroup.

Walking is a great start. Do what you can. Don't push it. You will do just fine.

Good morning,

I am 8 weeks out and I began walking about 1 week after surgery. Like all the others say, start out slow and listen to your body. I started at 20 minutes walking my dog per day. I am now walking her on hiking trails about 45 minutes to an hour. All the up and down walking on hiking trails sure makes for some hard, good exercise! Start out slow and you will do great, best of luck!

40 minutes is pretty good. You listen to your body and that is important. No need to tickle the stitches [emoji4]

I just walked some until I was cleared to get in the pool. I do most of my exercise in the Water.< /p>

My surgeon also recommended me to swim. Less aggressive on the body. I wait for the weather to be a bit warmer (I am cold all the time now!) before I give it a try.

I am 3 weeks out and I have been walking the last week 30-45 min. I listen to my body and I have found discomfort usually comes from gas [emoji948][emoji3]

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
