In the process of this my doctor had me tested for sleep apnea. I was diagnosed with very mild sleep apnea and recieved a cpap. The doctor requires me to use it every night until surgery...i can't sleep with it, I feel like I'm suffocating because I'm not allowed to breathe through my nose. I'm sitting here bawling my eyes out and am ready to give up tonight.

You need to call your CPAP vendor in the morning and see about trying a different mask. The right mask can make all the difference, but it can take some trial and error to get there. Your vendor can't help you unless they know you're having a problem.

Yes--the mask makes all the difference and it takes some getting used to. I find something like the ResMed Swift FX (a "nasal pillow" device) really works for me. Wear it a little every night and eventually you will sleep through the night. You can do this!

I had my test and was given a Cpap as well. Took some adjustment but got used to it. Hopefully only for a short time

I meant to say I am not allowed to breathe through my mouth. I have a nasal pillow and a chin strap and I am fine for a couple minutes then my chest gets all tight cause I can't breathe through my mouth. I definitely need to call in the morning. I'm scared to turn off the machine for the night and say I need a different mask. I don't want the surgeons office to say I'm noncompliant. I'm so upset.

Ask for a different mask my hubby was the same but he is ok now with a face mask. Not s full mask. Sits under the nose and covers the mouth. I have the same. I know my mouth opens because I drool. But compliant. Doc gets report s not online

Will I be marked noncompliant if I stop using until I get a different mask? This is making my already bad anxiety like 50x worse.

They told me there's a wireless transmitter that transmits every nights data to my surgeons office and staff of doctors

Put it on for some minutes and "try" every night. At least the doc will see. Call them to see if they can send another type of mask. My hubby is going to see someone who will try more masks. When they came to the house to deliver and set up they showed us 2 different masks. When we went back to doc they showed him more options. In the end you have to be able to sleep

They showed me 5 different masks and I picked the nasal pillow because there was less stuff on your face, but now I'm realizing that was a mistake. I didn't know I breathed through my mouth mostly at night.

Try the Nuance nasal pillows mask. Also, to be compliant, you need to wear it more than 4 hours a day. I put mine on sometimes 2 hours before I go to bed. I have my cpap for 3 years and sometimes I still freak out! It helps me to calm down while getting use to it on my face. I work for a sleep clinic so I get it!!! But as everyone has said, call you equipment company and get a new mask, there are hundreds to choose from. Good luck!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
