Hello all! I am 2 days Post-op and just released from the hospital today however my gas pains are not subsiding.

I walk 10-12 mins every hour and I am taking simethicone to pass it but I think bc I have to "sip" my fluids I am in taking air. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help pass the surgery gas?

My surgeon said the simethicone is gas x - just RX strength & my gas is not going away :( every time I have even one sip of anything I get gas pain. I am not having any problems with fluids other than the constant gas. Today is my first full day home and I hit my Protein goal and my 80oz Fluid goal (which was only slightly hard but not crazy difficult to do)

Every sip = belching and gas pain which lasts about 30min after finishing the liquid, but nothing ever comes back up and I can drink 8-9oz at a time without feeling "full" or coming back up.

Well it might not seem good but it's good you're belching and it's not stuck inside. Sounds like you're doing wonderful on your first day home and reaching your goals. That's awesome

@bbyisonu. Thank you!

I was worried at first bc the day after surgery I was already taking in 50oz...and I don't want to stretch my pouch but nurses and my surgeon keep saying it is OK...it's a good sign?

I am not using any straws and I am feeling like I may need to go to urgent care or somewhere...I have not had any problems with getting fluids but now I am...the gas/indigestion is worse than ever...im at a total loss on what to do. I'm taking the max dose of gas pills that can be given...I walk even when it hurts so bad I want to cry. I keep walking bc that's all everyone says to do ....but I'm 6 days out and the gas is coming from me taking in fluids??? Also I am taking Fiber with ever Protein shake & now I am constipated with hemorrhoids. :( I was doing so well in the start??

It took me three to four days to pass all the air I had trapped after they sent me home. The small burps weren't really doing it. There were two separate occasions while in the bathroom were I was able to release a substantial amount with no strain. I was just thankful it was in a private space!

If you feel you are constipated you really need to take something for it now! The longer you wait the worse it will be. I took Miralax on day 4 after surgery because I was worried I was too and I've thankfully been regular since.

I am now 16 days post op and drinking is a whole lot easier.

Hope you feel better really soon!

I'm Day 4 from surgery and the gas has been the biggest thing for me. In the beginning it was just growling around in my system all the time. That has gotten better, and I have passed substantial gas, but I don't dare pass gas unless I'm on the commode. I have diarrhea and have had it since Day 4 of the Pre-op diet! I guess I expected as much since I'm only taking in fluids, fluids is what's going to come back out. But, I'm really tired of trying to run to the bathroom whenever the gas feels like it just needs to explode out, because it won't be just gas. I know it's TMI, but I don't know how else to describe it. I took an Immodium today hoping to calm that part down. I have not used any pain meds today other than Tylenol (liquid), and I do have discomfort in my midsection, but if I don't do too much it's tolerable. I want to go outside for a walk, but I'm afraid to go too far from the bathroom!

I feel kind of bad today and that is depressing me. Trying to keep my spirits high.

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
