They give you lots of pain meds. I had a drip post op while in the hospital. Now I have a liquid pain med I can take every 4 hours. The pain is manageable with meds

In my experience pain was only bad when I woke up in recovery but they quickly sedate you. I'm 5 days post op and in no pain at all.

The pain at the very beginning (day of surgery and day after) was more than I was expecting. But I also had a drip so I was able to stay on top of the pain. Use your pump! Days 2 and 3 the pain is only at the large incision and is mostly felt when first standing up and first sitting down. The pain meds really help. I also developed a cold so the coughing sucks! My first night home (day after surgery I tried to sleep in my bed. That was a mistake. I was super uncomfortable and felt like I could not move. The last two nights I have slept in a chair with my feet up and that was much better!

I have Tylenol with codeine prescribed to me but I only use it at night. You can take every 4 hours but I choose not too. I'm not big on meds.

Pain is only when I initially stand, sit or turn to my side when on the couch. Haven't attempted to lay in the bed (I have a platform bed and it's low).

Coughing definitely sucks because you feel everything.

I am very tired that I will say.

I'm also trying to get these fluids in because seeing my urine dark and feeling the slight tingle from it being so strong freaked me out a little.

Yes! Me too (had mine on the 16th) and it lasted about a week. Mine got way better (more predictable and less frequent) when I started Protein shakes. Hang in there, it gets better!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
