Looking for April peeps for RNY (Bypass)

Recommended Posts

My surgery was Thursday, Apri 7. I was released yesterday.

I'm a sleeve to bypass revision due to a few medical issues. The pain is nothing compared to what I had when they did the sleeve. Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

Getting up and walking keeps the gas pains at bay.

I am having surgery Wednesday, April 13th. Band to Bypass... definitely getting more nervous and scared each day. The doctor has no idea what type of scar tissue I have and also could be possible erosion of band to deal with... Needless to say, i am starting to freak out the closer I get. :(

I'm in Atlanta... Still waiting on insurance approval but the coordinator at my surgeon's office said he is still scheduling in April. So my fingers are crossed for a quick approval so I can get in in April!!

Hi everyone...I'm going in for my surgery tomorrow at 1 pm!!...n let me tell u nerves are high!.. We have come down to the hotel we will be staying at after I'm released from the hospital..we need to stay within the hr from the hospital n home is 2 hrs away. It's been such a long process n it's almost over....this part anyway. I made it through the 2 weeks of optifast!...barely lol. Had a coffee with some cream n sweetner tonight at the hotel cause I just couldn't take it anymore!. Seems I'm down almost 25 pds in the last three weeks so that's kinda exciting!...how am I gonna sleep tonight!? Lol. I don't think I have ever been more excited to taste something other than Optifast n cucumbers, celery and broccoli!. Good luck to everyone having April surgeries!. We can do it!!!

Here's a little update ... day five days post-op. Doing really well. Already my sugar level is normal. Hardly any pain. That I attribute to walking as soon as you can and moving your bowels (it also releases the gas pumped in during surgery).

I've been following my doctor's orders to the T. I'm now on full liquids and having the 4 oz of Protein drink has alleviated some of the tiredness I was feeling.

Best wishes to all.

Hi, everybody!! My surgery date is 4/25 and my liver shrink diet started yesterday. Today is my 34th birthday and I spent it drinking a Protein Drink, a Protein Bar, and 3oz of lean meat. It's a far cry from a normal birthday of Breakfast donut and meals out with friends, but I wouldn't trade it. I'm so excited for what this next year will bring and the healthy lifestyle I'll model for my kids. I want them to see me making my health a priority and taking care of myself. So far, though... I'm hungry. So hungry! But 2lbs lighter than I was yesterday and throwing a party for every pound I'll never see again.

Can't wait to follow each of you and hope you'll check in after surgery!

April 18!

Originally scheduled for May 4, someone cancelled and I got lucky. It's only been a month or so since my seminar and things moved really quick for me! I'm in Southern Ca

Dr. Wegener! Wish we had the same surgeon so you could tell me all about it, but I understand their practices are a little different before/after. How is your liver shrink diet going? Starting day 3 today and am down 4.8lbs. At this rate, should take off a decent amount right before surgery to jumpstart things. Still outrageously hungry, but I reminded myself last night that I'll wish it was this good for the 6 weeks post-surgery when I'm eating liquids, puréed and soft foods!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
