Revised from the VSG to the Bypass

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone I'm new to the gastric bypass forum.... Long story short I had a few terrible complications with the sleeve that I received May 2014 and was just revised to the bypass March 16th. So I'm four days post-op and have some many questions and would really love some input and support.....

Hi! And welcome! My advice is to follow the instructions provided by your surgeon and nutritionist. When you start eating real food eat very slowly, don't drink at all before or after eating and start walking today! You will do great!

Congratulations! I hope that you are recovering well.

I had the bypass in sept. 2014. It took me awhile but I just reached my goal having lost 146lbs.

I would be happy to share my experience and I can help with questions.

You can either message me directly or simply post your questions here. There are many of us on this site that can likely help.

Hi! It is still early, I wouldn't be concerned about weight loss at this point, but diarrhea seems unusual. I would check with your doctor or nurse, I wouldn't let it go too long, stay hydrated. Keep us posted!

Diarrhea is very common while on the clear fluids and full liquid fluids stage. Once you start puréed Constipation is very likely.

I also would not worry about the weight loss. The first month or two works like that and then everything slows down to about 10lbs per month.

It's funny because people assume when they go from losing that 1lb or more a day to 1-3 lbs per week, they think they are stalled. A stall is no weight loss whatsoever in 10 days or more.

Congratulations!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
