Awesome NSV to Share My Changes with Others!

Recommended Posts

So I'm super excited. I teach at a University, and I had a Psychology professor with whom I am friends on Facebook, etc. come up to me yesterday and tell me that my story and weight loss journey has been such an inspiration to her to watch. She teaches the Psychology of Change and asked me if I would come to her class as a guest speaker and talk to the students about what motivated me to change and what has maintained the motivation for the long-term changes for almost 3-years now.

It's not so much about surgery, because, let's face it, surgery is the tool that got things started, but whether or not we choose to make long term changes to be successful is up to us. Anyway, I digress. I was super excited and flatter that she invited me to speak on my changes, and I'm hopeful that i can motivate someone else to get healthy! keep up the hard work! You never know who is watching you and being inspired!

@@livvsmum that is fantastic! Your success is an inspiration and as a social worker I can really appreciate how important it is to apply change theories to real life - and you exemplify the power of motivation and success.

I know you will inspire the class and may never know the true impact of your willingness to share. Yay!

That is so cool! I work at a college too and I often wish I had a public platform to share my story here at the school. I see so many students, faculty, and staff that might benefit.

I worked at a University before I was on disability and used to run a Brown Bag series for staff. This would make a great topic.

Do you have a training and development unit (either in HR or elsewhere)?

That's awesome. I too work in higher Ed and it's been flattering to have students who haven't seen me in a while come into my office and do a double take when they see how much weight I've lost so far and to talk about the dedication and hard work it takes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
