Hi. I am finding it very difficult as the days go on not to be impacted by smells. Everything tends to smell badly to me. I did really well drinking etc without being ill but some smells make me want to vomit. I was in an uber to the dr for a 2 week checkin and the car smelled like Chinese food. I am sure the hard working driver's wife made him food for the day. All I wanted to do was make him pull over so I could get out even though it was pouring. The next cab driver smelled of cigarettes. And it goes on and on. I can't stand the smell of my bedroom or me. My friends tell me I am crazy and everything smells fine. Does this go away, moderate or is it only me? Any hints to make it more manageable?

OMG I am in the same boat. Can't go anywhere. My family smells "onion-y". I'm looking for solutions too.

My smell was "off" for a little while post op too. I remember eating at a seafood restaurant with my husband and having to go sit outside while he finished because I could smell the fried fish/seafood and the oil smell made me nauseated. My smell aversion did go away and I went back to normal. Can't really remember how long it took.

Hang in there!

Every strong smell completely grossed me out after surgery. I'm 8 weeks post-op & somewhere along the way, the sensitivity went away. I remember walking figure 8's through my house twice a day in the beginning (it's a long house) to get my 30-40 min & my route went through the kitchen where my husband was warming up stuffed peppers. Oh.my.gosh. The pepper & onion smell was SO repulsive. Gag-reflex repulsive. Hang in there--it goes away!

I'm sorry @@Wendi1988 but I laughed at that. I've never heard someone refer to their family smelling onion-y.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
