Two weeks in -- obsessed by food

Recommended Posts

Hi -- I had my surgery on July 20 -- I'm on the full Fluid diet now and go for my first fill on Aug. 27. I'm not really hungry physically, but I can't stop thinking about food -- it's everywhere -- commercials on tv, etc. Has anyone else experienced this -- does it go away?

Congrats on getting banded. I got banded on July 12 and i completly understand what you are talking about. I just left "liquid hell" and have started on mushies food. I have to say that once I started on mushies the obssession with food calmed down. I think its cuz on mushie you can have a larger variety. Hang in there...mushies are right around the corner!

for a former foodie, its torture i know. I have tried just about everything to keep my mind off, but i still have to cook "real" food for my family, so its difficult. my first weigh in is what made it easier. 7lbs the first week and 15 since then really motivates you to stick to the diet.

I had my surgery on July 20th also. I never felt hungry the first week and a half after surgery, but now I'm hungry all the time. I can't stop thinking about food. I get my first fill on Aug 29th. I can't wait.

I felt the same way, exactly! I am so ready for my 1st fill, too. It will get better when you move to mushies. I started going back to the gym and that has seemed to help me not think about food so much. Especially when you see how hard you must work to burn off all those calories you eat!

_Becca's made a great point, it does seem to help when you realize how much work it is to burn off say a slice of pizza. Makes it less worth eating that pizza!

For all you folks counting on that first fill. I haven't gotten mine yet, but I read over and over how the first fill RARELY if ever helps you feel any restriction. So try not to put all your eggs in that basket, I'd hate for any of us to be devastated. It seems it takes a minimum of two and usually three or four fills or more to get to that "sweet spot."

We can do this!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
