What to bring to hospital?

Recommended Posts

A book or some magazines you like to help pass time. Comfortable clothes to wear home - particularly on the bottom.

You may wanna check on the heating pad. If its electric, then the hospital technically isn't allowed to let you plug it in unless its been cleared by biomed. However, not all nurses follow that rule and may let u use it anyways...

Earplugs if you have them. But the hospital did provide them. (The stupid machines beeped all night and I couldn't sleep.). And easy shoes to slip on to walk in.

I packed books and magazines to help occupy my time -- didn't touch them once; I was almost too tired to keep my head up the entire time I was in the hospital.

If you're going to be in for more than a day (I was there for three days, but I know a lot of processes are different), bring a change of pajamas and a robe. It will feel SO nice to get out of a hospital gown, into your own clothes, and covered up.

Honestly the only thing I used that I packed was a hair tie and my cell phone. My time was spent sleeping, walking, or peeping. I brought Chapstick that helped a lot, I'm not sure about lip gloss.

I brought stuff to take a shower my first day postop, but my surgeon said no showering until this morning (I came home yesterday). I brought my hairbrush, a hair tie, and the face wash & moisturizer. And a pen to keep track of how many 1-oz cups I drank.

I did travel for mine, so I had a few extra things but still only used the comfortable clothing, chapstick, and heating pad. Everything was provided . Oh and I had my cell phone and charger which was brought for entertainment purposes (i.e. books, magazines, etc.). With travel, I was gone 4.5 days.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
