Anyone finding you get sick easier?

Recommended Posts

I am almost 3 months post op. I was feeling great until I went back to work with the cesspool of germs we define as a high performance work area. I feel like I've had a cold or cough now for several weeks. Any suggestions on how to fight this? I take Biotin, Vitamin D, multi Vitamin, calcium citrate and B12. My weight loss has been pretty steady - down 50 lbs since surgery day Dec 28. Only 38 lbs to my goal weight - woohoo!

Well, after six years, and only one real bout with common flu stuff, I've wondered if the surgery actual helps prevent common flu/cold incidents.

Most people report the opposite effect. Many report surviving colds and flu much better after surgery. This is probably due to the added Vitamins after surgery.

In my own case, I survived cold and flu season much better after surgery. I did get a stomach flu that was going around. But in a way that was a bit of a good thing because I lost 5 pounds from this and was able to keep that weight off.

I have been sick often this year, but am unsure if it is because I have a toddler at home now and he is sick so often from going to birthday parties and an in home daycare or if it is surgery related. I am religious with my Vitamin regime as well (I keep picturing my teeth falling out if I were to miss my Calcium and D ha ha). Hope you feel better soon.

No, not really, but I've never been one to get sick all that easily anyway (I never get a flu shot). Since my surgery I've had allergies a couple of times (October and February); I was actually amazed at how fast I recovered during the second time. I'm usually coughing, sneezing, etc. for at least a couple of weeks but I was fine in about 5-6 days; much faster than normal.

My immune system has definitely gotten stronger. In previous years between October and March I'd typically get one flu and 2-3 colds, each followed by about a month of bronchitis. We are now mid-March, I've been exposed to a LOT of sick family members, and I have yet to actually fall ill. My husband did just get over a really bad cold, and 3 days ago we thought I'd caught it because I had a slight cough, but I woke up the next day and nothing.

This is pretty awesome. Must be all the vitamins! :D

I've always been really prone to bronchitis and that hasn't changed. But it seems like my allergies have kicked into high gear. I had allergies as a kid but it's not been as bad as an adult until the last couple of years. This year I'm taking Zrytec, Flonase, Benadryl on occasion, symbicort, and I'm using a rescue inhaler more often. That's just for seasonal allergies. I also break out in hives if I don't medicate myself before workouts and I even seem to be allergic to the ink in my tattoos at times!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
