Swallowing air...

Recommended Posts

Instructions say to not drink with a straw to reduce the amount of air your swallow. But my blender sure whips a lot of air into my Protein Shakes. And if I let it 'sit' a spell, then the Protein filters to the bottom and I end up with a sort of sludge in the bottom of the glass.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hey, Id have to agree with you on that one, They say not to get in any extra air, and I agree with that, Its very painful....But no matter what I do, I either get TONS of air bubbles in my Protein drinks, or It creates a film at the top, and the "sludge" in the bottom of the glass, Stirring the Protein powder in DOES NOT work either, You either have to blend it, or Use one of those shaker glasses. It has had me so frustrated, Ive just stopped using the Protein powders all together and lord knows I need tons more protein. If anyone could shed some light on this topic, itd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! I'm so glad I'm not the only one!! I'm just surprised there isn't more said about it.

I'm not much of a burper usually -- one I am doing a lot more than ever drinking these shakes. Of course, post-surgery I won't be drinking them as quickly, but still.....

I use Isopure from GNC. It is already mixed and the alpine punch tastes like a sort of kool-aide. There is an after taste, well not really a taste, it sucks the moisture out of your mouth. However, once that is over it tastes great. It is not terribly filling but it tastes good and it doesn't have air bubbles.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
