Is it too soon for vinegar?

Recommended Posts

I am 6 1/2 weeks post op. In the past 2 weeks I had tuna fish with light mayo twice and didn't feel well afterwards. Now I am allowed to eat vegetables so I tried 3 bean salad tonight. I had 2 small bites and feel the same as I did with the tuna. I realized the light mayo and the bean salad both have vinegar in them. I am thinking the vinegar is giving me problems. Is this possible? Why would vinegar cause me pain? When were you able to use vinegar?

Vinegar is very acidic, so that MIGHT be your problem, or it might be that you simply are eating too much heavy Protein. mayo doesn't have that much vinegar in it, I can't imagine it's enough to affect you.

Are your bites teeny? Like baby spoon teeny? Are you chewing your food until it's puree? Are you eating too fast? I had a really hard time with chicken for about 2 years and I still have a tough time with ground beef or any meat cooked to well done. I am three years out. :)

To answer your questions Yes Yes and No. I had 3 oz of chicken Tuesday night so I know it wasn't the chicken. So I am almost sure it is the vinegar that is too acidic for my tummy at this time. Will revisit those foods items with vinegar in them at a later date.

it is all just so individual - I had a pickle slice tonight and no problems from it. I am 3 weeks out.

Try white fish.....

Beans=gas...painful, discomfort

Veggies... Try different ones. Some you'll tolerate better. Salads killed me up to 3 months ,I filled up on very little. But always remember even though you can have veggies......Protein first always. 4 oz chicken breast..30grams Protein

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
