Cigna and 6 mths of dieting?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if you still have to wait the 6 months with Cigna even with comorbidities? My doctor has been documenting my weight for the past five years with remarks about wls, but nothing consistent. More so in the past year, however. So I'm afraid they are going to make me go through the hoops..

Hi Big Fred Congratulations on getting a surgery date!!! We are all thrilled for you! Thanks also for helping us out with the informative list of things we need for Cigna approval. I wanted to ask you though as I have heard otherwise about the 40 BMI ...there are folks who have been approved when Cigna was in a good mood I guess, who have a lower BMI. A woman when I first started this journal almost a year ago said she was approved with a 36 BMI and no comorbidities. I am only a 36 leaning toward 37 and praying. I only have high cholesterol and rising blood pressure and family history of sleep apnea, diabetes and morbit obesity. I guess only time will tell.

HON....why did you have to start your supervised diet all over again!? Sorry to hear it!

Yep, they will for sure! You have to meet all their requirments prior to being considered for authorization.

I had to go on the six month supervised diet. It was an insurance tactic to make me discuraged but I did it and the time goes by pretty fast.

I have one month left on mine, man I'm getting excited!

Were you required to lose a certain amount of weight beforehand or was it just "do 6 months then get the okay"?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
