I currently weigh 296 not much better but hey I have a long road ahead. I have chosen VSG and have made my first appt with a Center for Excellence Bariatric facility here in town. I am looking for friends who are also at the beginning so we can be sleeved sisters that can support one another on this journey! I know the road will be long and rough but I know it will be worth it.

Hello, I'm in Louisville and starting pre-op diet Monday morning so having my "food funeral" tonight with son and daughter-in-law! My surgery is on 3/21 here in Louisville with Dr. John Oldham. I'm so excited as it has been an 8 month adventure to get to this point.

Hello! I'm from KY and at the very beginning of my journey... Just faxed my patient packet in yesterday. I have read so much stuff, but I have no idea what's next. I'm thinking this is gonna be a long drawn out thing and it's killing me!! Can someone fill me in on how everything is gonna go? I was told I would have to have 6 months supervised diet, but the lady on the phone yesterday told me 3 months.. I'm seeing Dr Weiss at bluegrass bariatric in Lexington! Please help

Hello, and welcome.

I was sleeved April 20, 2015 by Dr. Weiss and couldn't be happier. He is an awesome surgeon.

Take a deep breath. You will need to be patient. Everything doesn't happen overnight.

This whole process will go more smoothly if you practice: patience, polite persistence, perseverance and positivity.

I went through Georgetown but Bluegrass is probably similar: they will schedule you to come in for nutrition counseling, a psych clearance, etc. In addition, you will need a cardiac clearance, and a bunch of tests. They will help you et those scheduled, too. Your first visit or so, you will probably receive a notebook with lots of material and a checklist.

Best of luck with your journey and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Hello, all! I was just wondering ... after you took your tests and fulfilled all your requirements, how long did it take you to get approved? I have two more diet visits remaining, which means Dr. Weiss will submit my info for insurance approval in mid-March. I was told that BCBS could take as long as 30 days to approve my surgery, and then it could take an additional 60 days for me to get a surgery date from Dr. Weiss. I was so surprised to hear this. :( Does that sound right to you guys?!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
