Kaiser South Sac Program - Meeting with surgeon!

Recommended Posts

I went to my first surgeon appointment, and got my goals for surgery. I am very excited.

I went to the orientation on 2/6/16

I had the meeting with my surgeon today 2/24/26

I have my nutrition class on 3/17/16

I have my support group on 3/9/16

I have an appointment with the OB on 2/29/16

And I was told I need to lose 10 lbs minimum, but ideally 25 lbs would be considered "knocking it out of the park."

And finally, I'm due to a TB shot, it's been 10 years.

I'm hoping to have my habits in order and my weight loss goals met by 3/17 so I can meet with the psychologist ASAP and get my surgery scheduled. Anyone have any tips?

Anyone else currently in the South Sac program? I could use a support buddy :-) .

Hi there! By any chance, are you doing yours through Kaiser? Where do you live?

Oh wait, you already said "Kaiser." Whoops! Ha! What area do you live in? I live in the Central Valley and they're sending me to Fremont.

That's so exciting! You're so close. How was the program for you? Which surgeon did you get? And how did you lose the required weight pre-surgery?

I love the program. It really gives you the know how before and after surgery. If you have questions just ask. They are there to help you. I have Dr. Grinberg. If you stick to the 1200 calorie pre op diet that they provide you with and get in the recommended exercise, the weight will drop off in no time.

How exciting! I went to the introduction on 2/10, my doctor put the referral in on 2/22 and I got a call today for my 4 hour orientation on 3/17! I have been wanting this for so long and it is all happening so quickly. My labs came back as pre diabetic this week and I kicked into full gear with getting this weight off but I am scared if I lose too much before I meet the surgeon I will not be a candidate any longer. Will the surgeon use my weight recorded at my physical or do they go by the weight at orientation?

You can start losing weight prior to meeting with your surgeon to find out how much he wants you to lose since they will use your highest recorded weight. Starting early will make it so things move faster and you don't get stuck having to wait for any appointments because you haven't met your goal weight.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
