I waited about a year, until I got a good handle on my weight loss and new lifestyle, and got to know my band and how to "Listen" to it.

Then once I understood and was comfortable with everything, I began to reintroduce many things, including alcohol....

I also drink beer. and other carbonated drinks...but i understand how to do it now.

There were more important things to deal with than alcohol within the first year.

Yeah I don't think I'll be one of those superstars waiting a year. I'll be glad I can wait a month lol I'm a bartender. Looking for a replacement for my favorite captain and Coke!

I had a vodka drink day 8 while still on liquids, but not on pain meds and it hit me hard. I used to drink beer a lot but the carbonation is too much. A lot of people I have spoken with drink wine with the lap band. From a calorie perspective, I would stick with vodka on the rocks with a squirt of sugar free flavor like crystal light. The drink will be under 70 calories. If you had 6 of them, you would feel nice and be at the equivalent of maybe 2 Protein shakes in terms of the number of calories.

I waited 2 months and had a vodka and Crystal Light, Definitely hits you quicker without as much food in your stomach. I have since had a few glasses of wine and that didn't cause any problems either. Of course, I just had my second fill. Things may change as the band tightens.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
